Role Overview: Accountant at SpaceX (Hawthorne, CA)

The Accountant is an essential member of SpaceX’s Accounting team, playing a vital role in day-to-day accounting operations—especially for the Starlink hardware production. This includes tracking, analyzing, and optimizing costs related to manufacturing, inventory, and distribution of high-volume Starlink kits. The role supports SpaceX’s global deployment aspirations by ensuring scalable and accurate costing practices.

Core Responsibilities

  • Drive the accounting close process for timely, accurate financial reporting.
  • Manage inventory costing and reconcile Starlink kit raw materials, sub-assemblies, and finished goods.
  • Conduct obsolescence reviews and reserve calculations to minimize waste.
  • Prepare journal entries, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, reserves, and intercompany transactions.
  • Partner with finance, supply chain, and operations teams on budgeting and financial planning.
  • Lead improvement initiatives for process standardization to speed up close cycles.
  • Prepare schedules for external audits and interact with auditors.
  • Participate in special projects and support the overall accounting function.

What SpaceX Looks for in an Accountant

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline, with 2+ years of experience.
  • Preferred: CPA license and experience at a Big 4 accounting firm.
  • Strong proficiency in ERP systems (MS Dynamics 365), Excel, and SQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP, international standards (IFRS), and handling multi-currency environments.
  • Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects independently and work in a collaborative team setting.
  • Willingness to work onsite at Hawthorne, CA, including occasional extended hours.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $80,000 to $115,000 annually, depending on skills, education, and experience.
